Cytokinetics (CYTK) announced on Thursday that the U.K. drug regulator approved its heart disease medication, Myqorzo (aficamten), and concurrently, the country’s health spending watchdog, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, also endorsed it.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency issued marketing authorization for the cardiac myosin inhibitor as a treatment for adults with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the company said.
Additionally, the NICE, which sets drug policy for the U.K.’s National Health Service, issued favorable guidance endorsing aficamten for use in England and Wales, Cytokinetics (CYTK) added.
“We are pleased to have secured a marketing authorization for aficamten and to see positive guidance from NICE for eligible adult patients in England and Wales,” said Joseph Dagher, head of European operations at Cytokinetics (CYTK).
The company expects to launch the product across the NHS later this year.
