AbCellera (ABCL) on Wednesday announced a collaboration with Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) to discover and conduct early research into certain T-cell engagers targeting conditions such as autoimmune diseases.
As part of the deal, the Canadian firm is expected to leverage its T-cell engager platform to discover multispecific TCEs that Vertex (VRTX) will have the right to develop further and commercialize.
In exchange, the company will receive $28M in total upfront payments as well as milestone payments, subject to its ability to hit preclinical, development, regulatory, and commercial targets.
Vertex (VRTX) is also expected to fund all research and development activities and provide AbCellera (ABCL) with tiered royalties on net sales of products resulting from the partnership.
Additionally, AbCellera (ABCL) can perform cell line development, process development, and clinical manufacturing through Phase 1 development if both companies agree to such an arrangement.
