  • Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) on Wednesday announced the FDA approval for a MedTech device designed to deliver both radiofrequency and pulsed field energy in a single integrated catheter for cardiac ablation procedures.
  • The product, branded as the Dual Energy THERMOCOOL SMARTTOUCH SF Platform, is intended to help electrophysiologists handle complex cases depending on the patient's anatomy, the company said.
  • The catheter solution is integrated with J&J’s (JNJ) CARTO ecosystem, a three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping platform. The company expects to begin a phased launch of the DE STSF Platform in the U.S. with the first commercial procedures set to begin this summer.
  • “Following a successful introduction in Europe, we’re pleased to rapidly expand access to this technology in the U.S.,” said Michael Bodner, company group chair of electrophysiology & neurovascular at J&J’s (JNJ) MedTech division.
