- Global Ship Lease (GSL) has agreed contracts for 10 mid-size container ships at an aggregate cost of about $917M, the company said Thursday.
- The ultra-high-reefer, wide-beam vessels are scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2028 and the first quarter of 2030.
- All 10 ships have been fixed on multi-year charters upon delivery, with a TEU-weighted average term of 6.7 years, and are expected to generate roughly $665M in aggregate adjusted EBITDA over their charter terms.
- Executive Chairman George Youroukos said the new builds were designed to be "the workhorses of global container shipping for many years to come," replacing aging vessels in the fleet while meeting liner customers' need for flexibility amid shifting trade patterns.
- GSL said the move is backed by a strong balance sheet and forward charter cover of $2.1B spread over 2.6 years.
