2026-05-12 05:16
- Software development firm GitLab Inc. (GTLB) on Monday said it is restructuring its operations, which include workforce reductions, as the software company shifts toward a leaner organization and greater use of AI automation.
- Stock down -9% in after-market trading.
- The company said it plans to reduce the number of countries where it has small teams by up to 30%, flatten management structures, and reorganize its research and development operations into smaller teams.
- GitLab also said it is automating more internal processes using AI agents, which will lead to role reductions across the company.
- CEO Bill Staples said the changes are aimed at positioning GitLab for what it sees as a major shift in software development driven by AI.
- "We anticipate reinvesting the majority of savings into accelerating our progress against the specific growth and technological initiatives that we've outlined," Staples said.
- GitLab reaffirmed its FY2027 guidance and said first-quarter results are expected to be in line with prior forecasts.
