- The chairmen of the House Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means Committees are asking the CEOs of some of the top health insurers to testify before them later this month on ways to lower costs for customers.
- The CEOs of UnitedHealth (UNH), CVS Health (CVS), which owns Aetna, Cigna (CI), and Elevance Health (ELV) have received invitations to come before each committee on Jan. 22.
- "This hearing is the first in a series to examine the root causes driving higher health care prices and discuss policies that will lower the cost of care for all Americans," Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Jason Smith (R-Mo.), chairmen of, respectively, the Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means Committees, said in a statement.
- The hearings come as enhanced ACA subsidies for those who get their health insurance through state exchanges ended on Jan. 1 and President Trump in December said he wanted a meeting with insurance executives on ways to lower prices for consumers.
