The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday gave the final approval for exchange-traded funds holding ethereum (ETH-USD), providing market participants with access to the world's largest altcoin through easily tradable instruments.

But the first trading session did not seem all that bullish. All U.S.-listed exchange-traded funds tracking the price of Ethereum's ether (ETH-USD) ended the session lower on Tuesday.

ETHE, which is being converted to an ETF, did emerge the big winner, and saw the most investor participation of the group, with daily volume reaching 15.5M shares. From there, BlackRock's (NASDAQ:ETHA) saw 9.28M shares change hands; Fidelity's (BATS:FETH) at 3.97M; and (NYSEARCA:ETHW) at 3.78M.
