2024-04-25 20:49

  • Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ:AMZN) is going all in on the Hoosier State as it plans to invest $11B on data centers in Indiana's St. Joseph County, the Seattle-based company announced today.
  • The investment is expected to create about 1,000 new jobs, and marks the largest capital investment project in the state's history, Amazon said. It brings Amazon's total investment in Indiana to $21.5B since 2010.
  • AWS is also launching a grant program in the county supporting science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, or STEAM, education; sustainability and environment; economic development; future workforce development; inclusion, diversity and equity; and homelessness, hunger, health and well-being.
  • AWS also plans to offer training programs, such as the Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing Workshop and the Information Infrastructure Workshop, to help train locals in areas such as cloud computing.
  • "This new data center campus to be built in the Indiana Enterprise Center over the next decade will be a major employment center for all of northern Indiana," said Carl Baxmeyer, president of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.
