04:31 PM EDT, 06/27/2022 (MT Newswires) -- Lockheed Martin (LMT) said Monday it has bought group annuity contracts from retirement services company Athene Holding (ATH) and it will transfer about $4.3 billion of its gross pension obligations for nearly 13,600 US retirees to Athene.
The contracts were bought using assets from Lockheed Martin's master retirement trust and no additional funding contribution was required, the aerospace and defense company said.

Athene will begin paying and administering the retirement benefits on Jan. 1, 2023, and the deal will result in no changes to the benefits received by the retirees, Lockheed Martin said.

Lockheed Martin also said it expects to recognize a settlement charge of nearly $1.5 billion -- $1.2 billion, or $4.50 per share, after tax -- in Q2 of 2022, related to the accelerated recognition of actuarial losses for the affected plans that were included in shareholders' equity.
