The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 6 cents per share.

The oil and gas company posted revenue of $71.8 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $74.2 million.

Viper Energy shares have climbed almost 4% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $27.03, a drop of 23% in the last 12 months.
