The Greenlight Capital funds returned -4.3% in the second quarter of 2026 and 1.9% year-to-date, each net of fees and expenses, compared to 15.2% for the S&P 500 index for the quarter and 10.2% year-to-date.
During the quarter, Greenlight Capital added several new long positions, including Comcast (CMCSA), Fortune Brands Innovations (FBIN), Primo Brands (PRMB), PayPal Holdings (PYPL), and Versigent (VGNT).
David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital also disclosed many major portfolio exits in its latest investor letter, led by a 157% IRR on Victoria's Secret (VSXY) over a 1-year holding period. The fund also closed out a 4-year investment in Weatherford International (WFRD) with a 45% IRR, as well as a 3-year position in Public Power Corp. (PUPOF), which generated a 30% IRR.
At quarter-end, the largest disclosed long positions in the partnerships were Acadia Healthcare, Brighthouse Financial, Core Natural Resources, Fluor, and Green Brick Partners.
"While we expected to trail the S&P 500 in such a strong market, we did not expect to lose money," the fund said in a letter.
