- Pacific Gas and Electric (PCG) announced on Thursday that it proposed a 10-year plan to underground about 5K miles of power lines across high wildfire-risk areas of Northern and Central California.
- The undergrounding work is planned from 2028 through 2037.
- The undergrounding work could cut wildfire ignition risk by nearly 98% and reduce outages by about 90%.
- The company also estimates $117B in long-term benefits, more than 10x the proposed investment, and can save ~$6B in long-term vegetation, operations, and maintenance costs.
- The plan is still subject to California Energy Safety and California Public Utilities Commission approval.
- On the market side, the PCG stock traded ~2.65% lower at ~$11.93.
