Leonardo DRS (DRS) has won a contract from Doosan Enerbility to supply the electric propulsion system for South Korea’s KDDX next-generation destroyer program.
The KDDX program is expected to deliver at least six destroyers and marks South Korea’s first indigenously designed and built destroyer program.
DRS will provide 100-Series permanent magnet propulsion motors and compact variable-frequency drives as part of an integrated electric power and propulsion solution.
The KDDX destroyers are expected to become the Republic of Korea Navy’s first full-electric-drive surface combatants.
Doosan Enerbility, DRS and Hanwha Ocean will collaborate on the destroyer’s integrated power and propulsion system.
