Veracyte (VCYT) has agreed to buy Convergent Genomics, which is focused on urologic cancer diagnostics, for $150M upfront.
The acquisition gives Veracyte, which provides cancer genomic tests, access to Convergent's UroAmp MRD, a urine test that can detect, monitor, and predict the risk of urothelial cancer or its recurrence well before signs and symptoms develop or become detectable.
So far, UroAmp MRD has been validated in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.
Convergent could receive another $30M in milestone payments based on UroAmp reimbursement efforts.
Veracyte said it plans to expand use of UroAmp to other indications, such as intravesical maintenance therapy monitoring and surveillance following treatment with curative intent.
