Biohaven (BHVN) stock price surged about 13% on Wednesday pre-market trade as it entered a global licensing and collaboration agreement with SK Biopharmaceuticals for its Kv7 ion channel platform, led by epilepsy candidate opakalim (BHV-7000).
The deal could provide Biohaven (BHVN) with up to $795M in upfront and milestone payments. Breaking down $400M comprises near-term cash consideration, with $350M at closing and $50M in 2027.
The company is also eligible for $150M in development and regulatory milestones, as well as tiered royalties ranging from the mid-teens to low twenties on U.S. net sales of opakalim and mid-single-digit royalties on sales outside the U.S.
Opakalim is a selective Kv7.2/7.3 potassium channel activator in Phase 2/3 development for focal epilepsy. Topline results from its RISE3 trial are expected in H2 2026.
