2026-08-05 01:38
- Moderna (MRNA) said that the first patients have been immunized in a phase 1 Canadian trial examining its mRNA vaccine mRNA-1469 to prevent Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV).
- About 80 healthy adult participants will take part in the study, which is being conducted with the support of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, which has dedicated up to $50M for preclinical and phase 1 testing.
- If the vaccine is eventually licensed, Moderna will provide a minimum of 500,000 doses for low- and middle-income countries under access pricing.
- This variant of Ebola is the source of an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of July 30, there have been 3605 confirmed BDBV cases there, which include 1587 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
