AdaptHealth (ADPT) said some of its computer systems were hit in a cybersecurity attack in the middle of June, adding that the theft of data is "material, due to the nature and potential volume of the data that is at risk."
Shares are down ~7% in post-market trading Thursday.
In an SEC filing, the company noted that on June 15, it received notification from a "threat actor" who claimed to have obtained data from the company's computer systems. AdaptHealth confirmed a system dealing with insurance billing, and some electronic health record system portals were accessed.
"The incident was the result of a successful social engineering attack that compromised a user session associated with a third-party contractor," AdaptHealth noted. "Following detection, the Company promptly implemented containment measures, including disabling the compromised user account, resetting affected credentials, and implementing additional access controls, and the incident has been contained."
