SpaceX (SPCX) is scheduled to launch a demonstration mission on Tuesday that will send a reusable capsule into orbit and return it to Earth, marking a key step in a new initiative that could position the Elon Musk-led company to capitalize on the growing in-space manufacturing market.
Under the Starfall program, SpaceX (SPCX) would bring products such as pharmaceutical components to space in small, uncrewed capsules atop its workhorse Falcon 9 rocket.
The company's Starfall capsule is set for its debut mission, following SpaceX's application with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for two reentry vehicle landings. The mission is scheduled to lift off from Space Launch Complex-40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Tuesday (June 23), during a one-hour launch window that opens at 6:43 a.m. EDT (1043 GMT).
On the equities front, SpaceX (SPCX) stock fell 3% before the bell on Tuesday, set to pick up on a three-day run of losses after a massive run-up following its IPO earlier this month.
