Ascendis Pharma (ASND) said that new data from a phase 2 trial of its adult hypoparathyroidism treatment Yorvipath (palopegteriparatide) indicate sustained efficacy over five years.
The hormone replacement therapy led to a "balanced, beneficial impact on the main target organ systems—kidney, small intestine, CNS, and bone—as demonstrated by normalized and stable urine calcium, serum calcium, quality of life, and bone mineral density," per a news release.
At week 266, 82% of patients responded to the multiple-component endpoint of serum calcium in the normal range, taking no active vitamin D, and taking <600 mg/day of calcium.
The PaTH Forward trial enrolled 59 individuals who were subjected to a four-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled period and then a 262-week open-label extension. All but 3 of the patients finished the five-year study.
