When Aflac (AFL) disclosed in June that hackers had accessed customer data, the insurer said it wasn't able to determine the number of individuals affected by the data breach. Late last week, the company confirmed that the cyberattack affected data for ~22.65M individuals.
In a filing with the Texas Attorney General, the company said stolen data included customer names, birthdates, home addresses, government-issued ID numbers, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and medical and health insurance information, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday.
"To date, Aflac is not aware of any fraudulent use of personal information and — along with third-party partners — will continue to monitor any fraudulent activity," the company said in a statement on Dec. 19.
Aflac (AFL) has started notifying the affected individuals and is detailing the resources it's making available to them.
