U.S. rig count slides in latest Baker Hughes report

The number of oil and gas drilling rigs in the U.S. fell by 4 to 546, down 39 rigs from last year at this time, or 6.6%, Baker Hughes said Friday in its latest weekly report.

Drilling rigs targeting crude oil in the U.S. lost 6 from the previous week to 414, while gas rigs climbed by 4 to 125 and 7 rigs were classified as miscellaneous, in the week ending October 31.

Rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin gained 1 to 250, and the Eagle Ford and Williston Basin remained unchanged from a week ago, both at 30.
