美国陆军批准恩布里奇5号线绕威斯康星州保留地改道

2025-10-30 22:51

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday approved Enbridge's (ENB) application to reroute the aging Line 5 oil pipeline around a northern Wisconsin tribal reservation.

Enbridge's (ENB) 41-mile reroute was proposed to move the pipeline off land held by the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa; 12 miles of pipeline must be removed from the Bad River Band's land by June 2026, as designated by court order.

The permits for the Line 5 reroute were announced with little detail, and no supporting documents about the approval were issued.

The new $450 million pipeline route will cross more than 180 Lake Superior tributaries, including the Bad River, and environmental groups criticized the Army Corps decision to grant the federal permit as "premature and unlawful" as litigation continues over state permits.

Enbridge (ENB) has been using Line 5 to transport crude oil and natural gas liquids between Superior, Wisconsin, and Sarnia, Ontario, since 1953.

The Wisconsin project is separate from Enbridge's (ENB) plan to build a protective tunnel to encase a different segment of Line 5 in Michigan that runs for four miles beneath the Straits of Mackinac linking Lake Michigan and Lake Huron; litigation is ongoing.
