Core Scientific (NASDAQ:CORZ) shares rose fractionally in premarket trading on Wednesday as investment firm B. Riley upgraded the computing software company to Buy.
“We are upgrading Core Scientific from Neutral to Buy on stand alone value,” analysts Nick Giles and Fedor Shabalin wrote in a note to clients. “In our opinion, there is a high likelihood that shareholders will vote against the proposed transaction with CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV). In our conversations, existing shareholders have made it clear that they are unhappy with the floating exchange ratio and the absence of a collar or cash component. While CORZ has consistently traded at a premium to its offer price, the stock has significantly lagged peers as valuations across the space have substantially re-rated. For context, CORZ has risen by 32% since mid-August, while peers rose 143% on average.”
On Tuesday, CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator said the data center company would not increase its $9B offer for Core Scientific, despite opposition to the proposed acquisition from some major shareholders.
