United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL) said that the technical issue that led to over 1,000 flights delayed and dozens canceled across U.S. airports has been resolved.
The airline faced a significant technical glitch on Wednesday, August 6, that affected its computer systems—specifically a problem with the airline's weight and balance computer system—a crucial platform that tracks flight information, calculates safe loading, and feeds data into other operational systems.
United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL) reported the system outage began after 6 p.m. ET and prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to halt its departures at several major hub airports, including Chicago, Houston, Denver, Newark, and San Francisco. The problem was not related to a cyberattack, according to company statements.
The malfunction was resolved later that evening, allowing the airlines to resume departures. However, the carrier warned of continued residual delays as staff worked through the backlog and rerouted stranded passengers.
