• Joby Aviation (NYSE:JOBY) +3% and Blade Air Mobility (NASDAQ:BLDE) +20% – Shares rallied following reports that electric air taxi pioneer Joby is considering acquiring Blade, a helicopter and seaplane operator. While the deal is not yet finalized, the acquisition would give Joby direct access to Blade’s established urban air routes and infrastructure, particularly in NYC, and strengthen its position in medical logistics. Blade went public via SPAC in 2021 but has yet to report an annual profit.
• CommScope (NASDAQ:COMM) +54% – Shares skyrocketed after reports that Amphenol (APH) is nearing a deal to acquire CommScope’s broadband connectivity unit (CCS) for ~$10.5B, including debt. The CCS division, which generated $2.8B in revenue last year, is CommScope’s largest and has attracted interest from both strategic buyers and private equity firms. The deal follows Amphenol’s earlier acquisition of CommScope’s mobile-networks business for over $2B. CommScope, under pressure from a heavy debt load and weak demand, has been actively divesting assets. Amphenol, valued at ~$125B, is a major player in interconnect products, while CommScope has a market cap of ~$1.7B.
