W. P. Carey (NYSE:WPC) will release Q2 earnings results on Tuesday, July 29th, after market close, and the net lease REIT's stock price could be impacted by its interest income on cash deposits.
The consensus FFO estimate is $1.21 (+2.62% Y/Y) and the consensus revenue estimate is $416.26M (+6.82% Y/Y).
Last quarter, the net lease REIT's earnings fell short of Wall Street expectations.
Q1 AFFO of $1.17, trailing the $1.20 consensus, advanced from $0.85 in the prior quarter and $1.14 in Q1 2024. Revenue of $407.4M, vs. $412.7M expected, rose from $403.7M in Q4 2024 and $386.8M a year before.
Lower interest income on cash deposits offset a significant earnings rise.
Non-operating income fell to $7.91M from $13.85M in the prior quarter and $15.51M in the year-ago period. First-quarter interest income on deposits stood at $2.6M, against $6.6M in the previous quarter.
Management reaffirmed their AFFO guidance of $4.82 to $4.92 per share for 2025. The consensus stands at $4.75.
"With these projections, I see a rather unattractive return/risk curve," noted Seeking Alpha analyst Sensor Unlimited, who sees large odds for stock prices to keep seesawing in the near future.
Options trading implies a 3.3% price swing on the back of WPC's quarterly earnings release.
Meanwhile, insiders have been net buyers during the quarter, with two insider sell transactions reported in the last three months against nine open market buys.
The stock has gained ~18% year-to-date. Short interest stood at 1.88% of the total float as of July 24.
Seeking Alpha authors see the stock as Buy. However, the Quant Rating system as well as the sell-side analysts grade WPC as Hold.
