Trump threatens extra 10% tariff for countries aligning with 'Anti-American policies of BRICS'

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday evening said that any country aligning itself with what he termed the "Anti-American policies of BRICS" will invite an additional 10% tariff, with no exceptions.

"Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff," he said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

Trump did not further clarify what 'Anti-American' policies he referred to. “There will be no exceptions,” he added.

The announcement follows a BRICS summit in Brazil, where member states condemned U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and criticized the rise of unilateral tariffs. The leaders called Trump's sweeping import tariffs “indiscriminate” and a threat to global economic stability.

“We voice serious concerns about the rise of unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures which distort trade and are inconsistent with WTO rules," the bloc released a joint statement after their summit in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The BRICS alliance originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and later expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
