Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:BK), also known as BNY, has entered a multiyear relationship with OpenAI to bolster its own proprietary AI platform, Eliza, the company said on Wednesday.
The new agreement gives BNY (NYSE:BK) access to OpenAI's API and ChatGPT Enterprise platforms, along with expert insights, BNY said in an email to Seeking Alpha. "Together, these will further help enhance Eliza with access to additional AI capabilities such as OpenAI’s advanced reasoning model and fine-tuning capabilities," a BNY spokesperson said in the email. "OpenAI and BNY expect to collaborate deeply through early access to new models and capabilities."
The agreement is not exclusive. The bank's platform is built to be model-agnostic, so "we see great value in working with multiple leading technology companies to support our innovation strategy," the spokesperson said.
"AI is reshaping the landscape of financial services and helping us to move quicker, be more efficient and resilient. This new collaboration with OpenAI, in combination with our existing AI technology, will allow us to not only power our innovation, but actively shape it," said Leigh-Ann Russell, chief information officer and global head of Engineering at BNY (BK).
Eliza, serving as the bank's AI backbone, is designed to enhance client service, company operations, and drive cultural transformation. Every BNY (BK) employee has access to the Eliza platform, with more than half of them using it regularly, the bank said.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the multiyear agreement earlier on Wednesday.
Bank of New York Mellon (BK) stock gained 0.6% in midday trading.
