The Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act, the latest version of legislation that would bring about marijuana banking reform, could be attached to a bill aimed at cryptocurrency regulation.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) brought up the prospect to House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-Calif.) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on August 11, Marijuana Moment reported.
The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs passed a markup of the SAFER Banking bill in late September 2023. It has been awaiting action by the Senate since then.
In March, it was reported that Schumer sent an email out to supporters urging them to sign a petition supporting SAFER.
