11:20 PM EST, 12/05/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Pfizer (PFE.F) refuted a Channel 4 Dispatches investigation alleging that it funded educational presentations discrediting the effectiveness of AstraZeneca's (AZN.L, AZN.ST) COVID-19 vaccine, City A.M. reported Sunday.
The broadcaster claimed that the presentations included a list of disadvantages of the viral vector-based vaccine, even suggesting that it could cause cancer due to a risk of "chromosomal integration and oncogenesis." The British current affairs documentary program, meanwhile, did not disclose where it found the evidence for the report.
Director of Oxford Vaccine Group Andrew Pollard rejected the claims, noting that there was "absolutely zero evidence" that the vaccine "would or could" cause cancer.
Pfizer noted that it gave funds to a third-party agency for an education program but the company did not issue the presentation materials and did not influence the slides' contents.
The pharmaceutical company rose about 1% at the end of Dec. 3, while AstraZeneca lost marginally.
